After partnering with general contractors CBG Building Company for Michaels Student Living, the project developer on the completion of the massive UC Davis The Green at West Village—the largest student housing project in North America—Bergelectric crews are back on the UC Davis campus with CBG to build even more student housing at the UC Davis Orchard Park Redevelopment Project. According to UC Davis, the Orchard Park project will provide needed new housing (1,549-beds / 613 apartment units) for graduate students and students with families, a Recreation Center, off-site shopping options, open spaces with heritage oaks, and outdoor amenities for children and adults. The project will include a total of 11 four-story residential buildings and three single-story ancillary buildings for amenities and maintenance, covering a total of 461,205 square feet.
The Project Team is utilizing a Prescient Structural Prefabricated System—the same system used on The Green at West Village—which includes structural walls fabricated in Colorado, then shipped to the site for installation. Likewise, Bergelectric has been relying on its own prefabrication warehouse for everything from storage—due to limited space on the jobsite—to producing advanced and redundant electrical components for “just-in-time” deliveries. In addition, TopCon technology has been effective for Bergelectric’s underground site installation. “TopCon has been crucial as we’ve had to work around the protective native trees on site and follow the University’s Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP),” said Bergelectric’s Project Engineer Nathan Decker.
“The schedule has been unique,” continued Decker. “Installation tasks have been broken down into one-week time frames for each floor—one week for electrical rough-in, one week for fixture installations, etc. It’s worked well as we’ve been in constant communication with the entire project team to ensure we meet the rigorous deadlines.”
In addition to the complete electrical installation, Bergelectric crews will be installing the following systems: tel-data, access control, surveillance, fire alarm and the emergency communications system.
The UC Davis Orchard Park Redevelopment project is scheduled for completion in August 2023.
